Tip Of The Month
October - Your Bathroom is Your Haven
The Bathroom is a special room within the home, whether you are seeking a quick energising shower or a long relaxing soak, a place where you can forget all your problems of the day. This is the room where you can close the door to the outside world, a private place where you can retreat for cleansing the body and soul, perhaps somewhere quiet you can meditate, contemplate and be inspirational. The room needs to be warm so that this is a place where you can relax.

This is the one area of the home where water is constantly draining away, making it a very "Yin" environment that is prome to stagnation. If the area is messy and overcrowded this will slow down the "Chi" energy, and stop it from circulating properly. The atmosphere in the room will be stale and this will make you feel restless and very unsettled. Therefore to create the correct ambience ensure that this room is well ventilated, this will help with damp or stagnation from gathering.

To create the ideal Feng Shui bathroom, materials and textures must all be given consideration. One of the most satisfying rooms in the house to decorate, because of its size which is normally relatively small, it gives opportunity to use some different materials and schemes that might seem too indulgent for other areas. Soft greens can aid digestion, while blues' are linked to flowing rivers, seas and lakes these are seen to keep the water in the room flowing swifly. Pinks and peaches are colours that are calm and soothing.

Bright lights are essential in a bathroom to stimulate "Chi". Curtains and blinds made of natural fibres will contrast with the more Yang flooring. Bathrooms today are all about relaxation and escapism. Whether you prefer the contemporary tiles and gleaming marble, more traditional fixtures and fittings, when in the bathroom this is your room, your own personal haven of privacy and contemplation.

Introduce round leaved plants - this will give the room a lift, plants thrive on moisture so this will help with any water in the air. When relaxing use fragrant bath lotions, burn candles or essential oils, these fragrances will help clear any negativity. Place forms of crystal or pebbles as they come from the natural earth so they are used to water and with the different temperatures you may see them changing colour. These can be placed in wicker baskets or glass bowls.

Mirrors are powerful objects so position over the wash basin, they should always be kept clean and shining. If they become too tarnished or cracked, replace immediately, as this can have a damaging effect on the occupants.

Storage in a bathroom can be difficult, whilst it is appreciated that you need cleansers and other products and you may want them on hand rather than in a kitchen cupboard or under the stairs, they clutter and detract from the room if they are left on view. Take a step back and look at your bathroom, would you benefit from perhaps fitting a vanity unit to fit around the washbasin? This will help utilize the wasted space under the basin and give you at least two extra shelves for storing bulky items such as toilet rolls and bathroom cleaners and, perhaps, towels.

If space is really a problem consider some of the following, a hanging unit to suspend from the shower pipe-work which holds shampoo, shower gel and sponges, this will give some space on the window sill or the edge of the bath or fit corner shelving into spaces that you wouldn’t be able to use. Glass shelving looks good and is very practical and easy to clean. A corner wall unit with perhaps doors to disguise your medicines or makeup/shaving accessories.

A bathroom can be so much more than just a white wash room, a haven for you to enjoy. Remember, as these rooms are usually small keep clutter to a minimum.

Enhance your bathroom with crystal rocks such as the Amethyst (PT36) or Rose Quartz (PT135) or perhaps crystal night light holders these are big rocks in various stones such as the Rose Quartz (LT121) or the Sodalite (29130B) these can be found on the catalogue section called Special Offers and Love & Light of the website, plus many other products.
