| April - Garden Tips |
Now is the time to be thinking about what colours you want the plants to be when in bloom. Remember the following when buying plants or bulbs - colours alter our emotions and moods.
RED This colour will dominate the garden when planted in large patches and are not restful to sit near. They do however make excellent spot plantsand will drawn the eye to a certain area.
WHITE/SILVER When planted, these gardens appear fresh and clean and in the evening light will have a luminious look. Although very calming there may be a deadness to a large garden unless it is very carefully planned with many different shades and shapes of green, this will help to add vary to it.
YELLOW This is associated with Spring and late Summer. It is a rich and cheerful colour, but in its paler forms or when combined with white, it can make you feel uncomfortable.
GREEN Using pots of coloured plants and bulbs, is very affective against the back drop of a green garden. As gardens containing various shades and shapes of green can be very restful, so it is a very tranquil place to be.
BLUE This colour planted in borders can have a seductive effect but can also be gloomy. Blue plants can be mixed with white and silver foliage and soft pink flowers, these coloured planted together enhance any area.
PURPLE A very sumptuous colour, but restful at the same time. Mix purple with blue, white and soft pinks. A mixture of colours and very pleasant but calming.
PINK This is a warm colour which draws people. The gentler shades of pink are preferable for the calming effect that they have.
ORANGE Is a very happy colour but very difficult to place because of the rich colour. Best placed against a dark green background.
TIP - BUY PLANTS/BULBS which you are warmed to - nothing worse than have a garden full of colour which you hate !!
