December - Feng Shui & Water
Water is one of the most important solutions in Feng Shui and it has a special significance to the human body. By adding a water feature either to your garden or inside your home you bring fresh Chi energy that can be highly beneficial for your health and destiny.

The water feature can take the form of a garden pond, fountain, birdbath or even a swimming pool. Aquariums and fountains are ideal for indoors, but whatever you decide the water must remain fresh and unpolluted. Water features are best when placed in the east or southeast, other locations are not recommended.

For the garden the most beneficial shape for a pond is round or otherwise curved (kidney shape) avoid shapes with corners as these produce poison arrows (Killing Chi). The ponds can be filled with fish, frogs and water plants these help to maintain a balance and keep the water fresh and clean preventing stagnation.

Moving water such as a fountain in the middle of a pond or an artificial waterfall also help prevent stagnation. Fountains make the water more active and create a strong upward flow of energy. Lights can also be placed in the water pointing upwards as this will intensify the flow.

If by your home there is moving water such as a stream, douit or a reservoir this will help with your finance sector. Ideally the water should flow towards your property; this symbolises the flow of money to you, rather than money flowing out. Moving streams, waterfalls and fountains make sound, which can influence your personal Chi.

Water moving along the rocky bed of a stream flows easily around obstacles in its path. The sound of running water makes Chi energy move easily around obstacles in its path. If you are going through a rocky stage in your life, this can help you get through.

Secondly the sound of gently trickling water is more Yin and soothing, whereas the loud crashing sound of a tumbling waterfall or a tall strong fountain is more Yang and stimulating. Completely still clean water with a calm smooth surface is the most Yin.

Swimming pools are great water features if positioned in a favourable direction east or southeast. Pools should have rounded corners or oval but shapes with sharp corners should be avoided. Indoor pools must be well ventilated and designed so that there is minimal risk of condensation or damp entering the rest of your home. Always keep the doors between the pool and living accommodation closed.

An aquarium is a favourite means of bringing moving water indoors, whether it is an elaborate one or a very ordinary tank you can make the area more active or if the atmosphere is sharp you can slow down the Chi.

Quick aggressive fish darting backwards and forwards will create a more dynamic flow of Chi. Brightly coloured fish are also very stimulating. Slow peaceful fish, or fish with muted colours are move Yin and promote a gentler more relaxing atmosphere.

Fish are truly a great way of activating excellent Feng Shui luck inside the home. Keep nine goldfish of which eight should be red or golden/orange and one should be black. If your fish die suddenly do not panic simply replace them. It is believed that they have absorbed some bad luck that was meant for a resident of the household. Do not keep fish in the bedroom, toilet or kitchen.

Since we have taken the time to talk about water, our website has many water features for purchase and these can be found under the catalogue section called fountains.
